Home Grown is a national organization whose mission is to increase access to and the quality of home-based child care. They have announced a new program to help aspiring FCC leaders around the country. From their news release:
Home-based child care providers and caregivers have been historically under-resourced and under-appreciated. Naturally, providers have built peer networks of support to assist each other through challenges and to celebrate triumphs. These networks are often led by a fellow provider offering their free time to ensure other providers are getting their needs met through resource sharing and professional and emotional support.
We seek to build a more equitable and functional child care system by ensuring provider voices are included in decision-making and actions within the system.
Home Grown, a national collaborative of funders committed to improving the quality of and access to home-based child care, launched the Leading from Home: Investing in HBCC Provider Leaders initiative to support existing home-based child providers or caregivers in building their current provider networks and growing their influence. Home Grown will provide monthly stipends for selected provider and caregiver leaders, with additional funding available to support network activities and expenses such as technology, meeting expenses, and transportation. Home Grown will also match provider leaders with technical assistance to assist in goal setting and building capacity around policy strategy, strategic communication and engagement. We encourage both licensed family child care (FCC) providers and family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) caregivers to apply. Information and applications are available in English and Spanish. Applications are due March 19th.
Home Grown will be accepting applications from provider leaders starting February 24th, 2021 from eligible applicants. To learn more, visit the Home Grown website or register for the upcoming webinar on March 9th, 2021 at 2PM EST to participate in a live Q&A.
